Rackspace Adds Fifth Data Center to Accommodate Rapid Growth

25 October 2004

SAN ANTONIO -- Oct. 25, 2004 -- Rackspace Managed Hosting, the fastest-growing managed hosting company, today announced that it has acquired a 55,000 square foot, state-of-the-art data center in Grapevine, Texas. The new space doubles Rackspace's data center capacity with the ability to add more than 20,000 new servers for the company's growing customer base.

Rackspace continues to benefit from the growing trend of companies depending on outsourced providers to manage critical business applications from customer relationship management and financial reporting compliance to disaster recovery and security. Through this new facility, Rackspace can service its expansion, while providing additional geographic redundancy to new and existing customers.

"Our rapid company growth and customer acquisition rate created a need for additional space less than two years after the deployment of our last facility," said Paul Froutan, vice president of engineering, Rackspace Managed Hosting. "Our new facility is an excellent addition to our hosting infrastructure that will support our company's continued growth. The Dallas area offers great resources, infrastructure and talent to our newest data center."

Adding more than 100 employees in the past 12 months, Rackspace continues to add staff in all of its locations, including the new Dallas facility. For more information on employment at Rackspace, please visit http://www.rackspace.com/aboutus/employment.php.

Rackspace's new data center offers 24/7 N+1 redundant environmental controls, as well as 24-hour monitoring via CCTV, and additional stringent physical security with card and biometric readers. The facility also has a UPS backup power system in case of an emergency and, in the event of an extended power failure, diesel generators allow for a combined capacity of 12 megawatts.

The Grapevine data center will support a multi-homed Cisco Powered Network, featuring Cisco 6500 switches. Running on a fully-switched network, rather than a hub system, gives customers optimum performance and security. Critical redundancy is provided by multiple major bandwidth providers and multiple Gigabit Ethernet circuits. This location also boasts three carrier entry points, for additional levels of redundancy and reliability.
