Hivelocity Hosting Evicts 35 Spammers

29 October 2004

Tampa, FL -- October 29, 2004 -- Web hosting provider Hivelocity (http://www.hivelocity.net) announced today it has recently terminated over 35 customers due to violation of their Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) relating to spam.

In cooperation with Spamhaus, Hivelocity is working hard to do its part in stopping the ever growing problem of bulk unsolicited email. The offending customers were identified with the help of Spamhaus and Spews; two organizations dedicated to stopping unsolicited email.

Through email traps, consumer reporting and ever growing databases, Spamhaus and Spews are able to help determine who potential spammers may be and what networks their mail is coming from.

“It is our duty as a hosting provider to do our part in stopping the ever-growing problem of spam. Unfortunately, people don’t divulge they are spammers when you take their order. Without the help of Spamhaus we may never have known these customers were breaking the rules,” said Steven Eschweiler, General Manager of Hivelocity.

“We have recently instructed each of our Sales Reps to research the history of every new customer. We correlate their domains and previous IP’s against ROKSO and other spam lists before we turn the server over to them. If they have a track record of Spam, we will do our best to catch them before they ever get a server online,” remarked Mr. Eschweiler. Hivelocity plans to continue working closely with Spamhaus and Spews in the future to keep its network spammer free.
