Consolidated Container Builds Flexible Network To Support Manufacturing Operations

17 November 2004

ATLANTA – AT&T today announced it has renewed and expanded a networking contract with Consolidated Container Co. (CCC). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

CCC is a leading North American developer, manufacturer and marketer of rigid plastic containers for many of the largest branded consumer products and beverage companies in the world. It has approximately 4,000 employees and sells to more than 2,100 customers.

Under the new contract, CCC will deploy an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN), which offers a significant bandwidth increase as well as additional flexibility and reliability. Additionally, AT&T becomes CCC’s primary local voice and network services provider. Currently, CCC’s 61-site network consists of a mix of DSL, T1 and Frame Relay connections.

The bandwidth increase gained from the upgrade will support the rollout of CCC’s new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The ERP system helps CCC manage the purchasing of raw materials, distribution and operations in its 61 North American manufacturing facilities, a critical success factor in the highly competitive manufacturing industry.

“Consolidated Container constantly looks for ways to streamline its business,” said Andrew Ziegele, vice president of Information Technology for Consolidated Container. “Using AT&T’s state-of-the-art IP network gives us the capability to roll-out advanced ERP systems while allowing us the flexibility to easily incorporate new systems as the business grows.”

CCC uses the AT&T BusinessDirect® Web portal for all-electronic dealings, saving time and money. The secure BusinessDirect portal gives CCC online access to tools that provide near-real-time reports on network performance and direct access to AT&T’s ordering, status, inventory and trouble management systems.
