AT&T Wins $174 Million Siemens AG Contract

10 December 2004

MUNICH -- Dec. 10, 2004 -- AT&T announced today it has won a $174 million global networking contract from Siemens AG, one of the world’s leading manufacturing and technology providers.

The four-year contract extends and expands a long-standing relationship between the two companies. AT&T is Siemens’ primary networking services provider in North and South America, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa and parts of Europe, providing a standardized 800-plus node network-based Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) solution to the global Siemens organization.

Under the terms of the new agreement, AT&T is delivering an integrated solution supporting Siemens’ Network eXchange (SNX) strategy, leveraging the full capability and global seamless reach of the AT&T Private IP Services family.

“AT&T’s support and understanding of our complex networking requirements, backed by their robust global network and the good business relationship between the two companies, have been the key success factors,” said Volkhart P. Matthäus, head of the Siemens Corporate Information Office (CIO). “As a technology leader, the corporate network is at the heart of our business. We rely on the proven, very advanced services to support our global businesses.”

The Siemens Network eXchange (SNX) is Siemens’ next generation network infrastructure, establishing the foundation for a new enterprise communication model across Siemens and its business partners. AT&T has responded to Siemens requirements with a managed IP VPN solution, based on AT&T’s global MPLS platform.

AT&T will provide Siemens with a simple and effective management framework, using AT&T’s award-winning AT&T BusinessDirect® web portal. “Siemens’ key objectives for its infrastructure, namely flexibility, predictable and reliable performance, and cost efficiency, are fully met by AT&T’s services,” said Edmundo Ruiz, Vice-President CIO for Infrastructure at Siemens. “The AT&T BusinessDirect portal is allowing our community to interact directly with AT&T for the day-to-day management of the network, enabling our corporate CIO team to perform its governance role with instantaneous access to the information it needs.”

“We are delighted that Siemens has chosen our services in support of their SNX strategy,” said Chris Rooney, Sales President for AT&T. “It further demonstrates the strength behind the seamless integration of AT&T’s feature-rich service portfolio, true global reach and unparalleled track record in managing worldwide implementations and in providing a comprehensive solution for our customers.”
