Internet Host replaces Cisco Switches with Enterasys Secure Networks technology

13 January 2005

ANDOVER, MA -- January 10, 2005 -- Enterasys Networks (NYSE: ETS), the Secure Networks Company, today announced that Boston Datacenters, Boston's premier Internet hosting and colocation facility, has deployed Enterasys Secure Networks technology in its facility in Charlestown, Mass. Boston Datacenters provides a full range of hosting services to enterprise customers.

The founders of Boston Datacenters, who previously ran Internet hosting firm HarvardNet, repurchased the HarvardNet hosting facility from Allegiance Telecom in July 2004. For the majority of Internet hosting customers, the provision of high-speed, reliable Internet access is as necessary as the space in which they colocate their equipment. A state-of-the-art facility designed with 100 percent uptime and customer convenience as its key requirements, the Boston Datacenters facility connects to the Internet through physically diverse SONET rings to multiple Tier 1 carriers, to avoid single-cut outages.

"When we took over the facility, the infrastructure of the center was current and well maintained, but the server and network equipment had been neglected and was in need of replacement," said Vin Bono, president and COO of Boston Datacenters. "In order to provide the high-quality service that's essential to executing our corporate mission, we replaced all of the Cisco switches we inherited with Enterasys MatrixTM N3 switches at the edge of the network.

"Every enterprise depends on its network to serve customers, transact business and communicate within and outside their company. But for Boston Datacenters, the network is our business," said Bono. "We need reliable, robust performance from our network, and we need to protect the infrastructure from the threats posed by viruses, worms and denial-of-service attacks. We chose Enterasys Secure Networks technology because of its unique approach to embedding security directly into the network infrastructure. From a scalability and ease of configuration point of view Enterasys is way ahead of other well-known switch providers. Enterasys' highly competitive pricing and willingness to work with us as our networking partner rather than just a small new customer really cinched the deal," said Bono.

With Enterasys switches in its network, Boston Datacenters has experienced 100 percent uptime since the company launched on July 1, 2004. Boston Datacenters expects to add additional Enterasys technology to its infrastructure as the business grows.

"Enterasys is dedicated to providing our enterprise customers with the industry's most secure and robust network infrastructure," said Michael Rivers, executive vice president of worldwide sales and services for Enterasys Networks. "Boston Datacenters is a perfect example of an enterprise that won't compromise on network security as the company works to meet its business goals and serve the needs of its customers. We're pleased they've chosen Enterasys and we look forward to working with them as their business grows."
