BEDMINSTER, N.J. -- Jan 25., 2005 -- AT&T recently signed a $6 million agreement with URS Corp., one of the world's largest engineering services companies, to provide a secure, easily maintained network that offers added functionality while saving URS approximately 30 percent annually in networking costs.
URS will receive a network-based Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) that runs on AT&T’s industry-leading Multi-Protocol Labeling Switching (MPLS) platform. The VPN provides URS employees faster, more efficient use of two heavily used proprietary financial and session-based applications known for using large amounts of bandwidth. AT&T’s MPLS-based network allows traffic for these applications to be identified, segmented and routed through the network more quickly so that the application experience is faster and more productive.
The network provides the high levels of security and reliability needed to help comply with current regulations, easy network maintenance, and the flexibility to grow the network as the company grows, with appropriate class of service for each network site.
“AT&T understands my company’s history and business needs, as well as the previous infrastructure we were dealing with,” said Tom Lynch, vice president of information technology for URS Corp. “As a result, they were able to show us tangible cost savings while maintaining a good relationship with a vendor that we’ve trusted for data services in the past,” he added.
In addition, URS gains around-the-clock access to up-to-the-minute information about the performance of its network through the secure AT&T BusinessDirect® Web portal. URS can perform a variety of functions that help control the performance and cost of its network through BusinessDirect, including placing and checking status on orders, billing analysis, and issuing and tracking maintenance requests.
