Dorel Industries Realizes Bottom Line Savings With Global Crossing's Converged Video and Data Solution
29 March 2005
Florham Park, NJ -- March 29, 2005 -- Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC) today announced a new network converging data and videoconferencing for Dorel Industries (NASDAQ: DIIB, TSX: DII.SV, DII.MV), a global consumer products company. The companies' steadily expanding relationship began four years ago, and includes a suite of voice services.
Global Crossing's Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) service enabled Dorel Industries to reduce the network complexity and cost associated with its previous frame relay configuration, by supporting the convergence of data and video communications over a single connection. The IP VPN also creates a pathway for adding Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) at a later date.
"Global Crossing was responsive to our needs, and designed a network that reduced our total cost of ownership over our previous solution, while delivering a superior performance," said Ed Wyse, Dorel Industries' vice president of global procurement. "We're leveraging the security and reliability of the network to transport our business-critical communications."
By implementing Global Crossing's IP VPN, Dorel Industries significantly upgraded its videoconferencing abilities, eliminating ISDN as a video transport method and converging its internal video calling. In addition to simplifying its network structure and management, the IP VPN allowed for efficiencies through the removal of costly ISDN circuits from a number of locations.
"Dorel Industries needed a service provider who understood their business and could deploy the technology that best fit their requirements," said Paul O'Brien, Global Crossing's executive vice president, global enterprise and collaboration services. "We're delighted to have been this provider for Dorel Industries for more than four years, and will continue to offer them the focus and support they value so highly."
Dorel Industries' corporate traffic is transported over Global Crossing's secure, private MPLS-based IP backbone, which is physically separate from the public Internet for greater security, and has consistently performed at 99.999 percent packet delivery and availability, the industry's highest standard.
Critical business communications including e-mail, e-commerce, streaming video and other applications require consistent levels of uninterrupted performance. Global Crossing's industry-leading Service Level Agreements (SLAs) leverage the exceptional quality of the company's network to guarantee crystal-clear, virtually jitter-free performance of real-time converged IP applications.
Global Crossing's IP Video leverages the company's IP VPN to deliver real-time videoconferencing over a private, secure, global platform. Customers utilizing Global Crossing's IP Video Service benefit from a fully integrated and interactive environment, which accelerates decision-making, reduces travel and operational expenses, and facilitates team rapport efficiently and cost-effectively. Global Crossing's iVideoconferencing service has been recognized as "Best New Videoconferencing Service of 2004" by Frost & Sullivan.
A high-performance, versatile solution, Global Crossing's IP VPN is available in more than 500 cities and 50 countries, delivering scalable connectivity, secure multiple access options, and flexible billing options while supporting the convergence of data, VoIP, IP Video and Internet access over a single connection.
