Mexican Enterprise Comnet Utilizes Global Crossing for Critical Business Applications
5 April 2005
Florham Park, NJ -- April 5, 2005 -- Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC) announced today it is providing Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) to Comnet, a leading Mexican company specializing in developing telecommunications solutions nationally and internationally. The service agreement connects Comnet's facilities in Mexico City to the global Internet, providing direct connectivity over Global Crossing's secure MPLS-based, global IP network.
Comnet required a highly reliable Internet provider for delivering their critical applications to customers in Latin America. Offering industry-leading performance of 99.999 percent packet delivery and availability and the direct regional connections, Global Crossing's Internet access proved superior to that of Comnet's previous provider. In addition, Global Crossing's innovative Web-based network management tool, uCommand®, enables the customer to monitor and control its DIA service and provides a direct interface for troubleshooting and reporting, saving the company time and money.
"We selected Global Crossing because of its network quality, dedicated account support, flexible approach and online network management," said Alejandro Acosta, president and managing director of Comnet. "After five months of impeccable service, it's clear that Global Crossing's DIA service simply provides the best performance in the market and is the perfect fit for our needs."
Global Crossing's DIA service offers Internet connectivity to all worldwide domains using a meshed network that incorporates true global IP over Multiprotocol Label Switching-traffic engineering (MPLS-te) as a backbone transport technology, providing the ultimate in network resiliency and flexibility. Global Crossing provides customers with always on, direct high-speed connectivity to the Internet at speeds ranging from 56/64 Kbps to OC48/STM16, as well as Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet on a global basis.
"This agreement reinforces Global Crossing's position in Mexico -- and across Latin America -- as the service provider of choice for companies such as Comnet that depend on network reliability and global presence," said Pablo Mlikota, vice president for enterprise sales for Latin America, the Caribbean and southeastern U.S. regions. "We strive to provide the best service and solutions to our customers, and look forward to supporting Comnet's ongoing requirements for global connectivity and services."
Global Crossing's significant Latin American presence includes offices and operational facilities in eleven of the region's major cities. Through its redundant sub-sea and terrestrial cable systems, Global Crossing seamlessly connects South America, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean to the rest of its global network, delivering services to more than 500 cities in 50 countries around the world.
More than 50,000 end-users in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia use uCommand. The Web portal is built on Microsoft's .Net framework, and is used more than 2.5 million times per month.
