EarthLink Expands Its Arbor Networks Deployment, Guards against Denial of Service Attacks

1 June 2005

LEXINGTON, Mass. -- June 1, 2005 -- Arbor Networks, a leader in network security, today announced that EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK), the nation's next generation Internet service provider, has chosen Arbor's Peakflow SP to enhance its network protection against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, worms, network vulnerabilities and routing instabilities.

Last August, EarthLink deployed Peakflow SP traffic and routing to analyze the company's transit, peering and routing traffic. EarthLink is now expanding its deployment of Arbor's technology by adding Peakflow SP infrastructure security to assist in proactively detecting, tracing and mitigating network-wide anomalies and attacks. Peakflow SP will help EarthLink's network operators resolve DoS attacks and worms before the network is affected.

"Continuing to ensure the integrity of our nationwide network is of the utmost importance as we deliver new and innovative services to our customers," said Greg Collins, director of network engineering and operations for EarthLink. "Arbor's Peakflow SP enhances our traffic monitoring and planning analysis. We are expanding our Peakflow application to proactively protect our network against increasingly harmful DDoS and worm attacks. This enables us to continue delivering outstanding services to our customers with unmatched protection."

"We are pleased to be expanding our deployment with EarthLink," said Tom Schuster, president of Arbor Networks. "Initially EarthLink chose Peakflow SP to help with their traffic and capacity optimization, and it's a natural progression to use Peakflow for network integrity protection. Even as attacks on networks become more dynamic and furtive, Peakflow SP will help EarthLink to continue to deliver award-winning service and support to its customer base."

Peakflow(R) SP, an infrastructure security and intelligent network management solution, streamlines infrastructure security and network operations, while improving operations, reducing costs, and offering new revenue streams through value-added services. The Peakflow SP platform provides network and security engineers with the tools they need to effectively secure their networks from distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks and worm outbreaks while providing the operational reports for traffic utilization and routing events.
