PHOENIX -- June 6, 2005 -- AT&T today announced it has secured a contract with Avnet Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a leading distributor of electronic components and computer products, for a fully managed Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) integrating some 80 Avnet locations across North America.
The one-year contract expands an existing relationship between the two companies.
The new network will provide Avnet with the scalability that the company needs to support the rollout of critical new bandwidth-intensive applications. The network also will allow Avnet to take advantage of innovative IP-based technologies, like Voice over IP (VoIP) in the future.
“This new infrastructure is more efficient and will greatly improve our communications network for our suppliers, business partners and customers,” said Ed Kamins, Avnet CIO. “Even more critical, the network will provide us with the flexibility to implement new technologies throughout our worldwide operations in the future.”
The agreement follows the deployment of an AT&T high-speed network late last year that integrated Avnet’s flagship logistics and distribution center in Arizona with locations across Europe.
