MCI's Private IP Service Provides Increased Choice For Customers
26 July 2005
READING, UK, -- 26 July 2005 -- MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced that its flagship service, Private IP, which tripled its number of customers and network connections globally in 2004, continues to expand in response to increasing customer demand with enhancements of new features and network expansion.
Customers now have more choice to effectively prioritise key business applications over MCI's Private IP network with the inclusion of five Classes of Service with up to eight priority levels. This enables them to differentiate between their real-time voice, video, general and more critical business applications to cater to their business. For MCI's Managed Private IP customers, MCI will configure their router to map these Classes of Services to the customer's application requirements.
To address the growing demand for voice-over IP (VoIP), MCI has also added voice fragmentation support, allowing for better management of voice traffic enabling customers to extend VoIP to lower bandwidth sites and thus further increasing efficiencies and ultimately cost savings.
"Companies today rely on networks as the lifeblood of their business," said Roberta Mackintosh, senior director, Product Management, Pricing and Analysis for MCI in Europe. "Private IP, with its advanced features and strong global reach, is proving an ideal networking platform for enterprises of all sizes to run IP applications, including converged voice, video and data in a way that suits them and their business."
Access enhancements include MCI's new DSL connectivity option which enables customers in Europe (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and UK) to integrate DSL access to their core Private IP network reliably, securely and more cost-efficiently. MCI has also introduced support for MLPPP, which bridges the bandwidth gap between E1 and E3 Private IP ports, allowing customers to gradually add bandwidth to meet their application needs.
In 2004, MCI added more than 40 new Private IP nodes in 19 countries, including the Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary and Poland. In 2005, MCI is also adding connectivity in Russia and Slovakia, with more locations in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia planned. MCI's expanded access footprint will enable customers to connect to the Private IP network from more than 90 countries using a combination of access methods, such as IP, frame relay, ATM and DSL. Private IP customers can also connect remote users to corporate resources through MCI's VPN gateway.
Ideal for carrying voice, video and data over one network, Private IP is helping European companies like Georg Jensen manage and optimize their network. Georg Jensen utilises Private IP to connect its offices around the globe to form its IP communications platform allowing the company to operate more efficiently and ensure its locations receive information quickly and reliably.
