CHICAGO, IL -- June 5, 2006 -- GLOBALCOMM -- Acme PacketŪ, the leader in session border control solutions, today announced that XO Communications has deployed Acme Packet's Net-NetŪ session border controllers (SBCs) to support its wholesale service provider VoIP customers.
XO's wholesale VoIP services enable service providers to originate and terminate customers' voice calls nationwide through a single connection to the XO IP network -- thereby helping wholesale customers reduce costs in markets where they offer service, enter new markets more quickly and more efficiently manage voice traffic on a nationwide basis.
Acme Packet's Net-Net SBCs are used by XO to facilitate interoperability between peering networks and to provide protection of XO's VoIP infrastructure. Acme Packet's SBCs enable XO to maximize its service reach and revenue potential and provide VLAN support to segregate wholesale VoIP traffic. Call admission control features are designed to ensure high quality voice calls and protect XO's network from overloads. XO defends its network against attacks using Acme Packet's security features such as topology hiding.
"We saw the value of an SBC to support our carrier service initiatives," said Ramani Pandurangan, director of voice architecture at XO Communications. "We selected the Acme Packet solution as the Net-Net SBC is able to support the diverse requirements for our wholesale VoIP service offerings as well as the proven interoperability and interworking. We have grown by augmenting the Session Director capacity to match the growth of the number and types of wholesale VoIP customers and traffic. In addition to the technical excellence of their SBCs, Acme Packet has impressed us with their commitment to customer service and support."
"XO was an early adopter of session border controllers to offer wholesale VoIP connectivity to their SIP-enabled VoIP network," commented Andy Ory, president and CEO, Acme Packet. "Our feature-rich Net-Net SBC delivers critical features for the services delivered by XO to the wholesale VoIP market."
