Cbeyond and BroadSoft Take Leadership Role in SIP Trunking Market

12 September 2006

BOSTON -- Sept. 12, 2006 -- Cbeyond(R), (NASDAQ:CBEY), a managed services provider to small businesses, and BroadSoft Inc., a leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced their leadership role in the Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) trunking market. Both companies stake their claim based on the success of a dozen IP PBX vendors that have successfully deployed solutions leveraging their innovative SIP Trunking Service, which further validates market demand.

Cbeyond and BroadSoft developed their SIP Trunking Service with the SIPconnect specification, which was pioneered 18 months ago by both organizations, along with a number of other leading IP telephony vendors. This specification fosters direct IP interoperability among businesses with IP PBXs and service providers by providing a consistent, industry standards-based approach to interconnection using SIP and other standard VoIP protocols.

"An industry standards-based approach to SIP trunking, such as SIPconnect, is an essential condition for widespread adoption by both IP-PBX vendors and service providers," said Marc Robins, chief evangelism officer at RCG and a leading IP communications industry authority. "Cbeyond, as the first VoIP service provider to embrace SIPconnect and one of the first to launch a successful SIP trunking service, and BroadSoft, with its development and support of the underlying technology, are true pioneers of this technology."

The SIPconnect specification, which is now a SIP Forum-proposed recommendation, includes detailed instructions and architecture specifications designed to ensure a consistent quality of service, low cost and full-featured telephony for SIP-based VoIP calls.

"Cbeyond's BeyondVoice with SIPconnect service, an integrated voice, broadband and mobile package, provides our small business customers with features typically available only to large enterprises," said Brooks Robinson, chief marketing officer for Cbeyond. "Directly peering with next generation IP PBXs via SIP, allows Cbeyond to take advantage of our strong relationships with the channel partner community, while leveraging the innovation of more than a dozen IP-PBX vendors."

Fully interoperable IP PBX vendors that have successfully deployed solutions leveraging SIPconnect include Allworx, Asterisk, Avaya, Cisco, Epygi, Fonality, Guardian Technologies, Linksys, Sphere Communications, Switchvox, TalkSwitch and TeleChoice Solutions.

"It's exciting to see such a widespread adoption of SIPconnect by IP PBX vendors," said Scott Wharton, vice president of marketing for BroadSoft. "We can power SIPconnect and help service providers like Cbeyond generate new streams of revenue."
