VIA NET.WORKS Announces Next Step in Business Strategy and Strengthens Management Team With New Executive Appointments

VIA NET.WORKS, Inc. (Nasdaq: VNWI; EASE), a leading provider of business communications services for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe and the US, announced today the split of its world-wide sales organization into two business units: VIA Industry Solutions and VIA Express, in an effort to further develop its SME-centric and vertical market-focused strategy. A Product & Service Delivery unit has also been created to support both units globally.

* The VIA Industry Solutions unit will sell managed business communications solutions to SMEs in specific vertical market segments including retail, manufacturing, IT, communications and business services. This unit will focus on consultative selling with dedicated direct sales and value-added partner channels offering virtual private networks, dedicated hosting, managed security and e-commerce solutions.

* The VIA Express unit will sell value-priced and packaged service bundles, including web-hosting, security, voice, and Internet access, primarily through the Company's on-line web presence, telesales, and reseller channels. This unit will target SMEs across all business sectors.

* The Product & Service Delivery unit will deliver to each business unit the Company's core products. The unit will also be responsible for the provision of customer care services based on industry leading SLAs as well as operating the overall IT support functions of the Company.

In-line with its business unit shift, VIA also announced several new executive appointments:

Keith Westcott, formerly VIA's Vice President Indirect Sales & Managing Director of the UK, was named Senior Vice President of the Industry Solutions unit.

Dick Theunissen, currently VP Product Management & Marketing for VIA, will head the Express unit on an interim basis until a permanent manager is named.

Ray Walsh, was named Senior Vice President of the overall Product & Service Delivery unit, expanding his current responsibilities for technology & operations.

In addition, Nick Callaghan has joined the Company to replace Mr. Westcott as Managing Director of VIA NET.WORKS UK Ltd.

Nick was formerly Managing Director of PSINet Japan where he led the sale and integration of the company following its acquisition by Cable & Wireless IDC. Previously, Nick spent 9 years at BT in Sales, Marketing and Senior Management roles in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
