Rackable Systems, a leading provider of large-scale data center server solutions, has been awarded the 2004 LinuxWorld Conference & Expo Product Excellence Award for Best Cluster Solution, defeating IBM, SGI and VERITAS. The award honors Rackable Systems' Distributed DC Power technology, which enables organizations with large-scale data centers to achieve dramatic improvements in reliability, maintenance, power efficiency and ease-of-installation.
"The LinuxWorld Product Excellence Awards recognize the very best technology available to users of Linux and open source," said Warwick Davies, group vice president, IDG World Expo. "We are pleased to congratulate Rackable Systems for winning the award for Best Cluster Solution at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in New York City this week."
Rackable Systems' Distributed DC Power technology, a feature in the company's back-to-back rack mount servers, is compatible with both AC and DC-based data center environments. The technology utilizes DC power supplies that are 70 times more reliable that traditional AC power supplies, and produce 20 to 40 percent less heat than cabinets with traditional AC power. These improvements in thermal dynamics alleviate formidable challenges in the areas of reliability and CPU density-while significantly reducing data center power and maintenance costs.
"Winning the Best Cluster Solution for our Distributed DC Power technology is the culmination of a great year at Rackable Systems," said Tom Barton, president and CEO, Rackable Systems. "Whether it's deploying a single cabinet or supporting the most complex data center, our Distributed DC Power technology reflects our commitment to helping customers solve their real world data center challenges with solutions that are easier to manage, provide a faster return-on-investment and dramatically reduce the total cost of ownership."
