Enhanced Spam Protection Filter Introduced by Affinity Internet

2 February 2004

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2004--Affinity Internet, a web hosting services provider, announces today the introduction of an enhanced server side mail filtering technology designed to shield customers from unsolicited e-mail also known as spam. The solution is designed to protect customers on Affinity's ValueWeb (www.valueweb.com), HostSave (www.hostsave.com), WinSave (www.winsave.com) and Bigstep (www.bigstep.com) hosting brands from receiving unwanted or destructive email messages.

Affinity's enhanced spam filter builds upon its existing technology by leveraging the company's clustered mail server architecture. A filter running on a discrete mail server only "knows" about messages passing directly through it. Affinity's proprietary spam software gathers data via the clustered mail server architecture on messages being sent to all customers (clustered server currently processes in excess of one million messages per hour). With visibility into such a large pool of messages, Affinity is positioned to stop incoming attacks before they reach customers.

The spam filter represents Affinity's first line of defense against unwanted e-mail. Affinity, committed to delivering secure and reliable e-mail service to its customers, will make these solutions available to customers at no additional cost.

"Affinity is extremely committed to the fight against spam. Unwanted email is not only the Internet Service Provider's (ISP) problem. Email providers, web hosting companies and ISPs need to remove industry boundaries and forge relationships to foster a proactive and comprehensive solution. To date, the relationships in place are personal and not industry-based. To move towards a solution beyond individual company policies, everyone needs to work together to create an industry standard," said Peter Chambers, CEO of Affinity Internet. "This year, Affinity will be notably vocal about spam through education and protection initiatives for our customers and the industry as a whole, working towards putting an end to spam."

Affinity has had several spam initiatives in place; this is the first spam protection implementation the company has spearheaded in direct correlation with new anti-spam laws. This year, Affinity will proactively address spam through active involvement in several national anti-spam efforts. In addition to launching the new automated spam protection, Affinity is committed to working in conjunction with the numerous legal and industry oriented anti-spam groups in an effort to be a part of the solution to this growing problem.

In keeping with its dedication to the fight against spam, Affinity plans to deploy a series of technology enhancements throughout the year that will address both outbound and inbound unsolicited e-mail.
