Seranoa Networks Enables Three Service Providers to Deliver New IP Services

22 March 2004

BOXBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2004-- Seranoa Networks (www.seranoa.com), the leading provider of Service Edge Concentrators, today announced that it has three new customers, Crocker Communications (www.crocker.com), Intellispace, Inc. (www.intellispace.com), and North Atlantic Networks, LLC. (www.naii.net). All three service providers are using Seranoa's WANport Service Edge Concentrators to cost-effectively aggregate IP business subscribers, deliver increasingly popular IP services such as VoIP and Multilink PPP, as well as streamline and simplify network operations to realize dramatic capital and operational cost savings.

The WANport Service Edge Concentrator is part of a family of innovative IP-aware layer-2 switches purpose-built to provide service providers with a high performance, low-cost alternative to costly edge-router line card solutions from Cisco(R), Juniper(R) and other edge equipment vendors. As a result the WANport creates new and valuable IP service opportunities for service providers, reduces subscriber port costs by more than 3X , multiplies IP subscriber capacity by 10X or more, and increases the performance of popular IP services.

"Our customers are a true validation of the WANport's values we've been touting to service providers - carrier grade, dramatic cost-savings, a simplified network and the ability to offer new IP-based services," said Graham Pattison, CEO of Seranoa Networks. "Seranoa is the only company dedicated to enabling valuable IP/VoIP services to business subscribers at dramatically reduced equipment and operational costs for service providers."

Seranoa Networks, Inc. Customer Wins Include:

-- Crocker Communications (www.crocker.com) is one of New England's leading telecommunications providers offering residential dial-up and DSL Internet access as well as many business services including business DSL, Frame Relay, Web Hosting, co-location services, ISDN, and wireless.

"We were looking to increase our port capacity when we learned about Seranoa's solution. Adding router cards was more complex and dramatically more expensive than the WANport solution." said Matthew Crocker, Vice President of Crocker Communications. "We were also looking to add new IP services such as VoIP to service our business customers and the WANport will enable us to do that in a profitable way."

-- Intellispace, Inc. (www.intellispace.net) is a metropolitan broadband data service provider and serves companies in major metropolitan areas throughout the US and the UK. Known for the reliability, scalability and flexibility of its services, Intellispace delivers dedicated Internet access, email, firewall, storage, VPN and web hosting solutions to over 1500 multi-tenant buildings and customer locations.

"We selected Seranoa because there was simply no other product on the market that could touch the port density or low cost of its WANport solution," said Eugene Pisman, Chief Network Architect. "This solution can make our network much simpler, with a more flexible network management infrastructure, we can potentially cut our edge router costs by more than two thirds and we can provide more IP services to our customers. All of these factors, plus the ability to run our operations more efficiently, gives us a significant competitive advantage over other IP service providers."

-- North Atlantic Networks, LLC (www.naii.net) is a facilities-based carrier covering all of New England as well as metropolitan New York City and provides enterprise-class networking and IP-based data services to the Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) and enterprise markets. North Atlantic Networks works closely with enterprise customers to provide network infrastructure with an emphasis on solving the last mile problem. Services include T1, T3, OCX, metro Ethernet and carrier-class wireless connectivity. The company also provides collocation and a multitude of IP based products including Internet access, online storage, and QoS-based transport capable of supporting VoIP applications.

"As we investigated our upgrade options we quickly grasped that the cost of centrally consolidating T3s using aggregation routers was astronomical," said E. Burke Anderson, President and Chief Executive Officer at North Atlantic Networks. "When you look at the capital costs of buying routers, the operational costs of managing all the equipment, and the rack space hosting charges it becomes clear that a new approach is absolutely necessary. Without the WANport our network upgrade would have suffered dramatically."
