Levanta Launches and Debuts New Enterprise Software to Manage Data Center Scale-Out of PC Servers
17 May 2004
SAN FRANCISCO, May 17 -- Levanta, Inc., developer of the platform to manage scale-out in the Linux data center, unveiled its new, enterprise software that enables companies to realize and increase the benefits of the scale-out architecture. The Levanta(TM) Release 3 for PC Servers platform manages the deployment, rollback, recovery, change control, and change management of Linux servers, delivering unprecedented improvements in running Linux in the commodity computing environment.
Marc West, CIO of Electronic Arts (EA), said, "We are using the Levanta platform in the hosting environment for our popular Internet gaming site. The Levanta software's ability to provision complete servers from the OS through the application stack in minutes gives us the power to meet demand for games in real-time. Its authoritative change control gives us confidence that our systems are in compliance."
Levanta's Release 3 software eliminates the complexity and administration barriers to horizontal scaling. It provides authoritative control of commodity server farm environments with granular rollback, regardless of the software deployed. For example, the Levanta software provides control of server state transitions between patches or updates through Levanta's patented Smart Mirror(TM) and Repository(TM) technologies. Authoritative change control enables auditing and tracking of changes for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
Akmal Khan, CEO of Levanta, said, "The launch of Levanta and its new software marks a milestone in the server management industry. The scale-out architecture offers the promise of flexibility and cost savings, Levanta's Release 3 platform improves the business advantages of the scale-out model while eliminating the disadvantages. Our state-based platform management approach will dramatically accelerate data center scale-out deployments. Our customers appreciate that our patented, data center-proven technology provides unique benefits, like server deployment in under 2 minutes or the ability to recover a server that is unbootable."
Levanta significantly improves system administrator efficiency, more than doubling the number of servers managed, while reducing the costs associated with outages and planned or unplanned downtime. Levanta's ability to activate and hibernate servers in minutes allows IT organizations to quickly respond to changing business needs and improve customer satisfaction. This feature lowers capital spending through higher utilization of hardware, minimizing the need for spare servers, while also improving service levels. Release 3 also supports virtual server instances and enables seamless transition between virtual servers and physical hardware. Levanta Release 3 for PC Servers extends the capabilities of Levanta's current offering, already customer-proven in mainframe data centers.
