Interphase and Continuous Computing Demonstrate AdvancedTCA-based 3G Wireless Technology

22 June 2004

PLANO, Texas -- June 22, 2004 -- Interphase Corporation (Nasdaq:INPH), an international supplier of next-generation networking technologies, today announced a live demonstration of its equipment in Continuous Computing(R)'s all-IP 3G Release 5 wireless radio network controller (RNC) platform based on the new AdvancedTCA(R) architecture. The Interphase(R) iSPAN(R) 4539 PMC Multiprotocol T1/E1/J1 Communications Controller, as an integral component of Continuous Computing's system designs and exhibition at SUPERCOMM 2004, will be running Trillium(R) SS7 signaling as part of a pre-integrated blade framework. Continuous Computing, the leading provider of high availability Network Service-Ready Platform(TM) solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers, is hosting the demonstration at its SUPERCOMM booth (#12644) in Chicago from June 22-24.

Interphase and Continuous Computing have engaged in a reference sale partnership and supplier-customer relationship for the last two years, and the companies have developed a joint solution set for telecom original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to save their customers from the cost and development cycles generally required for integrating system blade components. This pre-integrated blade framework consists of the Interphase 4539 PMC T1/E1/J1 controller, Interphase iWARE(R) narrowband and broadband SS7 lower layer software stacks, Continuous Computing LINUXblade(TM) single board computer with Intel(R) processor, Continuous Computing Trillium upper layer SS7 software stacks, and co-designed convergence layer software that integrates the components into a seamless collective blade solution. This application-ready solution is available to telecom OEMs in a discrete system building block format or as a principal component of a complete, fully integrated platform. In blade-level format, the solutions can be used in a multitude of application environments requiring narrowband or broadband SS7 signaling, including control-plane nodes in both wireline and wireless networks.

The simulated all-IP wireless network demonstration at SUPERCOMM 2004 consists of multiple 3G wireless network nodes including a radio network controller (RNC), serving gateway support node (SGSN), gateway GPRS support node (GGSN), and a home location register (HLR), using both CompactPCI(R) and AdvancedTCA system architectures.

"The Continuous Computing and Interphase joint solution set has been accepted and deployed by numerous telecom OEM customers for applications ranging from mobile switching centers and mobile SIP exchanges to service control points, convergence platforms, and broadband access nodes," said Randall McComas, vice president of sales and marketing at Interphase Corporation. "This live exhibition of our pre-integrated framework in Continuous Computing's simulation of an entire wireless network at SUPERCOMM exemplifies our shared commitment to serve telecom equipment providers in all of our product initiatives. Along with being uniquely positioned as the leading vendor to offer a complete line of high availability hardware, software, middleware, and integrated solutions, Continuous Computing has truly been a model partner, OEM customer, and telecom equipment supplier."

"We are pleased to showcase Interphase solutions as important components of our SUPERCOMM all-IP 3G Release 5 wireless network demonstration since they also serve as critical elements in many of our system designs," said Simon Waters, vice president of business development at Continuous Computing. "As one of the key members of our PROACT partner program, Interphase has worked closely with us on many joint development and integration projects. Our mutual goal is to serve our common customers with pre-integrated solutions that decrease our customers' time to market."

The wireless network simulation will be on display at SUPERCOMM, June 22-24, 2004 in Chicago, booth #12644.
