C I Host's Wi-Fi Guy Heads East to Sample Hotspots, Gadgets
12 July 2004
DALLAS, -- July 12 -- C I Host's Wi-Fi Guy will tackle the Eastern half of the United States -- crossing over the border to Quebec and then meandering south to Key West -- city by city, exploring and reviewing all things Wi-Fi.
Christopher Faulkner, CEO of C I Host, the title sponsor, said, "The Wi-Fi Guy project has built a near-cult following among wireless fans. He is in the right place at the right time as Wi-Fi spreads like wildfire, and the content is at a level that consumers understand and enjoy."
Wi-Fi, or wireless fidelity, allows computers and handhelds to connect to the Internet without cables. The technology continues to advance, with faster data transfer and increased security.
"Corporations are watching The Wi-Fi Guy because he provides free, grassroots research," Faulkner said. "As they continue to tweak their business models, we're delivering reconnaissance."
The Wi-Fi Guy covered the western United States in Spring -- more than 8,000 miles -- from Baja, Mexico to Seattle, Wash.
The current Wi-Fi Guy gig will include:
Kansas City, Mo. July 12; Chicago, Ill., July 18; Montreal, Quebec, Canada, July 29; Boston, Mass., Aug. 1; New York, N.Y., Aug. 6; Philadelphia, Penn., Aug. 11; Washington, D.C., Aug. 14.; Charlotte, N.C., Aug. 22; Miami, Fla., Aug. 29.; Atlanta, Georgia, Sept. 6; Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 9; Little Rock, Ark., Sept. 12
Speaking with locals, attending street festivals and conventions, checking out hotels and working from coffee shops, The Wi-Fi Guy tests Wi-Fi hotspots, experiments with new gadgets, and blogs an "everyman's" opinion of the technology on his Web site, http://www.wifi-guy.com .
Analysts report that one in every six Americans who use the Internet now go on-line using a wireless connect.
