FOSTER CITY, Calif. -- Aug. 16, 2004 -- Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq:EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that Speedera Networks Inc., a leading global provider of on-demand distributed application hosting and content delivery services, has expanded its relationship with Equinix and will begin operating within Equinix's neutral Internet Business Exchange(TM) (IBX(R)) centers in Singapore and Hong Kong. This expansion complements Speedera's existing data center deployments in Equinix's Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago and Los Angeles area IBX centers.
Speedera's SpeedSuite family of services provides on-demand solutions that cost-effectively solve the performance, scalability, availability and security problems of distributed applications and Web sites. Through its patented global traffic management system, Speedera offers edge delivery services with connectivity to more than 1,000 carrier networks.
In order to efficiently reach its strategic network service provider partners, Speedera has implemented a network connectivity infrastructure within Equinix's network-rich Internet hubs that enables a direct, reliable and efficient means of interconnecting networks. At Equinix, Speedera can interconnect with every major regional and international carrier, network and ISP within the same facility, greatly enhancing the scalability of its service and reducing the transport costs of linking to these strategic partners in multiple, disparate locations and over long distances. These direct interconnections allow Speedera to quickly and efficiently grow its operations with greater flexibility while bringing content and hosted applications closer to end-users, resulting in a higher-performance experience for the millions of visitors to the sites of its approximately 300 customers.
In addition to providing a platform for network connectivity, the world-class security features of Equinix data centers include interlocking "mantrap" doors, multiple layers of biometric hand-geometry scanners controlling access, Kevlar-lined bullet resistant walls, as well as 24-hour security officers and hundreds of surveillance cameras. The power operations of each center include a high-performance backup system that guarantees uninterrupted power even in the event of utility power disruption.
"As we expand our on-demand distributed application hosting and content delivery services in the Asia-Pacific market, Equinix provides us with a one-stop shop for establishing a fast, reliable and redundant network connectivity infrastructure with access to strategic regional and international network service providers," said Ajit Gupta, president and CEO of Speedera Networks, Inc. "In addition to a flexible platform for continued growth, Equinix provides us with the highest quality infrastructure and network services to meet the demands of our growing enterprise customer base."
"Equinix's strong presence in the Asia-Pacific market, through our IBX facilities in key business centers, continues to 'make Asia easy' for U.S. based companies, such as Speedera, that seek to expand into the region while maintaining the highest levels of performance and reliability," said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix. "Speedera will leverage Equinix's network-rich and carrier-neutral data center and exchange services to efficiently and cost-effectively streamline the hosting of applications and distribution of content to end-users regionally and globally."
