Enterasys Secure Networks Enables Eaton Vance to Enhance Online Security
19 August 2004
ANDOVER, MA -- August 19, 2004 -- Enterasys Networks (NYSE: ETS), the Secure Networks CompanyTM, today announced that Eaton Vance (NYSE: EV), a Boston-based leader in the financial services industry, has deployed Enterasys' industry-leading Secure NetworksTM infrastructure to protect real-time financial data, control network access and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulatory requirements.
At Eaton Vance, the network means business—literally. Much of the data Eaton Vance transmits across the network at its Boston headquarters is real-time financial market data. If internal or external threats or attacks knock the network offline, Eaton Vance could potentially lose revenue, its customers may be inconvenienced and its reputation could suffer.
Eaton Vance has been an Enterasys customer for several years. Over time, its infrastructure expanded to include equipment from multiple vendors. When it was time to upgrade the network to meet the firm's evolving needs, Eaton Vance considered a variety of products and solutions and chose to deploy an Enterasys Secure Network to ensure business continuity, data security and regulatory compliance. "We now have a rules-based environment in place that ensures only authorized users can access various parts of the network," said Vincent Cottone, vice president of infrastructure services for Eaton Vance. "We receive and transmit real-time quotes, research, and news on the network all day long. We need visibility across the network to see who is viewing and accessing data at all times, and we have to proactively stop any intrusions when they occur without disrupting the business.
"From a Sarbanes-Oxley compliance perspective," said Cottone, "the ability to manage our network so that only authorized users can access specific data is just one of the many important benefits we receive from the Enterasys Secure Networks solution."
To provide the highest levels of network availability and security, Eaton Vance has deployed Enterasys MatrixTM N3 and N7 enterprise switches at the distribution layer and edge of the network. To configure, monitor and manage its network, Eaton Vance also has deployed Enterasys' NetSightTM Atlas management platform to improve network visibility and simplify operation and management.
At the heart of the Eaton Vance network is Enterasys' NetSight Atlas Policy Manager, which defines and enforces policy rules dynamically across the entire network in a single action. The Secure Networks Acceptable Use Policy solution enables the network to provision required business services to users automatically, based on each user's role, while preventing undesirable and malicious traffic from entering the infrastructure. This is particularly valuable as employees move within the office and log on to the network from multiple locations.
"The network is the backbone of Eaton Vance's business—as it is for many enterprises worldwide," said Mark Aslett, president and chief operating officer of Enterasys Networks. "When the firm needed a network that could deliver the highest level of application availability and information assurance, required to manage its business and protect its clients' privacy, Eaton Vance chose Enterasys Secure Networks, the only solution available today that can deliver the business benefits that other network vendors just talk about."
