Application Hosting: An Introductory Guide

Written by: Sam Lee

The Weaknesses

The new economy has brought with it a wealth of information that is required to be delivered, processed, and managed to take advantage of. Applications and other similar software are often the tools for such tasks.

Ultimately, applications define businesses. Application Service Providers (ASP's) empower business and technology leaders to choose an application based on the needs of the business, rather than the requirements or capabilities of the network. So, the business model of the ASP must able to support and provide a framework for co-operation and growth with your own business organization. Without the inter-relationship, system functions may not be operating correctly or at its full capacity.

So are there dangers with outsourcing pieces of your business? There are risks involved when you depend on a third party for your organization processes, especially when issues of reliability, security and confidentiality is concerned.

Final Words

When interviewing an ASP, inquire about their reliability and whether they have contingency plans if the hardware or network fails. If the ASP is not fulfilling its services, you will not be able to operate your business at full efficiency.
