Before taking the bold step of adopting application hosting, examine if the benefits will be greater than the drawbacks and the business can fully take advantage of the platform. ASPs is often a two-edged sword where on one hand it can save you costs and administration tasks but you will also lose the control of managing your own tools.
When you are outsourcing aspects of your company and its processes, you are in a way transferring your intellectual property and other sensitive organisation data. As such, it is important to examine and select a ASP that will protect that and ensure every possible measure is taken.
Nonetheless, if the company can envision and embrace the ASP business model successfully, there is very little doubt it will deliver some of the benefits advertised by application service providers. If not, the transition should not go forward.
