Data transfer is a terminology used to describe the amount of data that can be transferred in and out of your web hosting account, in most cases, per month. It is sometimes referred to as bandwidth. When a visitor browses through your web site, he or she have to download the HTML, images, scripts and other files to view the contents of the page. For example, if the visitors retrieve two images that are 7kb each and one HTML page at 5kb, then the total data transfer for that session would be approximately 19kb.

However, there are other factors that may influence your data transfer measurements, such as, FTP, SSH and other applications accessing files on your web hosting account.
