What is the difference between managed servers and dedicated servers? |
| Posted On: Mon 31 May, 2004 Answered By: Anonymous |
| Managed servers share many similar characteristics as dedicated servers but it is managed by expert technicians and other professional staff who will typically handle system setup, software installation, software patches and proactive security monitoring. On the other hand, dedicated servers are considered “semi-managed” as they are also leased and the web host provider are responsible for the hardware but the server administration is not managed by the client. The real differential factor with managed servers is that it shifts a significant amount of server administration work from the client to the web host for a fixed (monthly) fee. It frees the customer to focus on their core business, increase predictability of hosting costs, and minimize the number of IT staff required to overlook its online or IT departments. Finally, it makes it easier for growing businesses to upgrade its hosting needs since all that required is a phone call to the managed server provider! |
