How do I transfer, or FTP, my web site files from my local computer to the remote web hosting server?

The most common method used by clients to upload web site files into your web hosting account is using an FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, client. It is a piece of software that will allow you to authenticate and establish a virtual connection to the remote server to upload the files you want shown on your web site.

Some of the popular FTP programs include FlashFXP, CuteFTP and WS FTP. However, if you web page editors like Microsoft Frontpage or Macromedia Dreamweaver, they have an in-built FTP client and so do not require independent FTP client software. For more information regarding these web page editors please consult with your respective software vendors.
