Is it possible to find out another company's web host? And how do I get a web host without transferring my domain name.

Felecia,

There is a number of ways to find out another company's web hosting company. The easy methods are to do a trace route, domain or network WHOIS look up from any computer that has an Internet connection as there are websites that offer these facilities for free.

A trace route will show you the nodes from your PC (or server) to the company's web server that will often be clear enough to show you either the company's web host or data center where is it hosted.

A domain WHOIS is another easy method as most web hosting companies have its own distinctive domain name in its DNS (Domain Network Servers). From this is you can extrapolate the web host in question.

A network WHOIS will provide the network registrar's information on who actually allocated the IP or (IP blocks) that is hosting the company's website.

Lastly, you can get a web host without transferring your domain as long as you have access to the DNS records and be able to make changes to the DNS forward zone so then you can redirect website requests to whatever web hosting provider you want do use.

I hope that answers your question.
