I see a folder called CGI-BIN in my web hosting account. What is it for and can I delete it?

The CGI-BIN folder that you see in your web hosting account is for storing PERL and other executable scripts that you may employ to enhance the functionality of the web site. These CGI scripts are small utilities and applications used to overcome the shortfalls of normal HTML. For example, e-mail forms and web page counters are two application examples.

I highly recommend that you do not delete this folder as you may to use these scripts later on. Also, do not place images in this folder since if it is requested in web pages, they will not show due to the default permission controls.

Do you have an answer or something to share as well regarding this question?
