There are a few methods and tips to reduce the amount of bandwidth that your web site is consuming:

  • Optimize your web site images by compressing them into a GIF or JPEG format using image manipulation software, such as, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks or Paint Shop Pro. Many basic graphics will look fine in the GIF format and employ thumbnails when you want visitors to preview your photographs;

  • Analyze your HTML files and see if you can reduce the code in each file. For example, use CSS whenever possible instead of tables other HTML elements as this will keep thing compact and modular;

  • And ask your web hosting provider to install compression utilities, such as, mod_gzip as this will compress files when visitors request it from your web site.
