What is uptime and how does it affect my web hosting service?

Uptime, as the name suggests, describes the amount of time that your web site or server is up throughout the entire month. For example, if a web host provider has an average uptime of 99.86% last month; it means that the network was not accessible for approximately one hour last month.

Although some web hosts offer 100% uptime guarantees, it is difficult to achieve since problems can occur and affect the uptime of the web provider’s network. As such, the average in the web hosting industry is approximately 99.9%.
