Both POP and IMAP are protocols used to retrieve, send and manage e-mail. POP, Post Office Protocol, is a technology that enables for users to download e-mail messages and used to manage e-mail servers. IMAP, or Internet Message Access Protocol, enables users to access e-mail messages directly on the e-mail server from home or via other applications such as web mail clients. It also allows the user to keep messages on the server until the user decides to delete it.
